Fit/Unfit, Healthy/Unhealthy, Thin/Fat

Having been a fitness enthusiast since my childhood, a personal trainer since '92 and been involved in several fitness facilities over the years I think I can qualify myself as a fitness expert.

As an expert I have come to the realization that people searching for "fitness" or those looking to lose weight need to understand the relationships between being Fit/Unfit, Healthy/Unhealthy and Thin/Fat.

It is my belief that if you want to keep doing the things that you love to do that you must strive to be...Fit, Healthy and let's say Thinner.

To get to this point one has to realize that being Thin does not make someone Fit. and if a person is Fat they are not necessarily Unhealthy. In other words each of the three categorys are independent of each other.

To clarify. I use the elite athlete example when I talk to people about their fitness pursuits. You can have an athlete who is Fit and Thin, but nowadays that athlete may be far from healthy because of drug or steroid abuse. Conversely, there can be a Susie Homemaker that may be carrying some extra body fat, not by choice but by genetics, however she may really be Fit and Healthy because she eats right and exercises regularly. Got it?

So fitness is not about being Thin, it is much more about being Healthy and Fit. Yes, you can strive to be thinner and many people that take the steps to be Fit and Healthy will lose body fat, but it is not the end all in the equation. In fact if just getting thinner or losing body fat is the only goal simply quit eating, the result will be a thinner person.

peace
